Mistresses of the Modern

Finally! At long last I am able to share these images with you. This has been one of the most daunting and also most rewarding projects I have worked on to date. Our little band of misfits travelled the province—from Little Buffalo to Calgary—to document these amazing women and their stories.

ATB Financial launched the Mistresses of the Modern – Celebrating Alberta Women though Stories competition with the goal of celebrating the unique, inspiring stories of Alberta women. They accepted nominations from the public and selected seven winners. What these women share in common is the amazing narrative they’ve created of their lives.

To read each winner’s story, visit wearealberta.ca or stop for a few moments to watch the loop video being played at the front of the Mistresses of the Modern exhibit at the AGA. Below are some of the portraits I took, published in a softcover book and a few from the reception at the AGA to celebrate.

I’m so blessed to have been involved in this project. Thank you so much and congratulations to all of these outstanding women.

Whoa! This post brings back a lot of memories. I used to shoot a lot of band photography back when I was starting out. Ahhh yes, the good old days when all I had was a camera, a pair of Chuck Taylors, and was pumping out assignments 20 minutes before the deadline. This Saturday I was asked to shoot part of the Untapped Alberta concert series. The Lions, Mars & Venus, and Tupelo Honey at the Pawn Shop. See below.
